Our Story

Habitudes Personal Record Keepers

Once upon a time, when life wasn't so complicated, there wouldn't have been a need for personal record keepers. But in today's world, the bits of information you need just to get through the day, much less an entire lifetime, can really pile up.

The inspiration for our personal record keepers came when my lifestyle changed from that of a young apartment dweller to a first time homeowner and eventually a family of five.

Starting life as an adult is pretty simple. Then come the "complications," as mom called them. A spouse or partner. A house and mortgage. Kids. A pet or two. Combined families. Caring for elderly parents. Taxes to pay, insurance to arrange for or possibly even a divorce to contend with. It's no surprise you might need help from legal, financial, estate and investment advisors along the way.

Realizing that both the family and our advisors would need quick access to vital personal records in case one partner became disabled or died, I started using a little spiral-bound notebook called "What My Family Should Know." I updated it faithfully by hand for years until I had crossed out so many entries the notebook became almost unusable.

Voila! Personal computers to the rescue. I bought personal record keeping software and carefully entered everything the family needed to know. Foiled again! Eventually the software acted up. The publisher stopped "supporting" it. Everything I entered became useless.

Seeing a need for more dependable personal record keepers, I turned my attention to building them myself. I created the original Habitudes website and our first record keepers. They were subscription-based and stored online, but technical problems left no choice but to close the website in 2021.

Since then we've been concentrating on recreating Habitudes record keepers in a more user-friendly and reliable format.

We finally got it right.

Instead of a Rube Goldberg solution to what should be a simple task, all you need to do is download the record keepers to your computer. Using Microsoft® Word or a compatible word processor you can edit and customize them to your heart's content. No fancy software or coding to get out of date. Nothing to sign into. Easy-peasy.

Thanks for taking the time to read the Habitudes story.

We look forward to helping you through many years of life...nicely done!
